PHOENIX, Arizona — The Phoenix Inferno and SSS Phoenix Hockey Academy are pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Collin as Billet Coordinator for the 2026-27 season. In this role, Collin will oversee the placement of players with local host families, manage billet family relationships, and ensure that all athletes in the program have a safe, supportive, and welcoming home environment during their time in Phoenix.

The billet program is a cornerstone of junior and academy hockey, providing players who relocate to Phoenix with a family-style living arrangement while they pursue their athletic and academic development. Collin's appointment reflects the organization's commitment to building a first-class support system for every player in the program.

“We are thrilled to welcome Heather Collin as our Billet Coordinator. Her passion for hockey families, her organizational skills, and her genuine care for young athletes make her the perfect fit for this critical role. She will be the bridge between our players and the incredible host families here in Phoenix.”

— Troy Mick, Head Coach & Hockey Academy Director

Role and Responsibilities

As Billet Coordinator, Collin will be responsible for recruiting and screening potential billet families, matching players with appropriate households, and serving as the primary point of contact for both players and host families throughout the season. She will work closely with coaching staff and team management to ensure that every player's off-ice environment supports their on-ice development.

Key responsibilities include conducting home visits, facilitating orientation sessions for new billet families, managing the monthly stipend program ($700/month for a 9-month season), coordinating player arrivals and departures, and addressing any concerns that arise during the season.

“I'm honored to join the Phoenix Inferno and SSS Phoenix Hockey Academy family. I understand how important it is for young players to feel at home when they're away from their own families. My goal is to create strong, caring connections between our players and their billet families so everyone can thrive.”

— Heather Collin, Billet Coordinator

The Billet Family Program

The Phoenix Inferno and SSS Phoenix Hockey Academy billet program places players ages 16–21 with vetted local families for the duration of the 9-month hockey season (August through April). Host families provide a private bedroom, meals, and a supportive family environment. In return, billet families receive a monthly stipend of $700 and become part of the extended hockey family.

Players in the billet program are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the arena for practices and games. The program is designed to give athletes the stability and support they need to focus on their development both on and off the ice.
